Diary of a Boy Gardener

We are in the Berkshires, the beautiful rolling hills of western Massachusetts where the season is short and the frosts sometimes win. Visit Sally and David's Gardens and see how two old farts spend their time helping what plants they can find their place in this world.

Bird on my head

Good intentions haven't produced much here for all you faithful readers.
I could/should have written about the deer at lunch time last week or many other such things, but I didn't. But I can't let this incident pass....
This morning, as per the usual routine, I hung out the bird seed feeder. Sometimes there is bread to crumble on the ground. Todays was such a day and so I stood next to the feeder crumbling bread. It happened fast and I do recall the intense sound of wings fluttering, but, much more intense was what followed, namely a woodpecker landed on my head !!!
This is a first. He didn't stay long, more like hit my head, realized it was not the usual deal and flew back to the tree to figure out what that grey tangled mess must have been.
I could still feel the imapact zone a few hours later as I recounted the tale to Sally and Eric.
Then it was off to more gardening and already the memory fades.
Remember David, a woodpecker landed on your head
